Champagne and sparkling wine is produced by inducing the in-bottle secondary fermentation of the wine to effect carbonation.

The primary grapes used in the production of Champagne and sparkling wines are Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Pinot Meunier.

Champagne is produced exclusively within the Champagne region of France from which it takes its name. Other wines using this process are called sparkling wines.
